The performance of electric tricycle batteries affects the endurance, service life and maintenance costs of electric tricycles.

1. What type of electric tricycle battery to choose?

Electric tricycles have attracted a lot of attention on the Internet because of their practicality, convenience and low price. Batteries are crucial as the power source of electric tricycles. There are two main types of electric tricycle batteries on the market: lithium batteries and lead-acid batteries.

Lithium battery: small size, light weight, large capacity, high charge and discharge efficiency, not affected by memory effect, life span of more than 2000 charge and discharge cycles, but the price is higher.

Lead-acid battery: It is the most traditional type of battery for electric tricycles. It is relatively cheap, but it is heavier, has lower capacity, and has a relatively short life, generally 300-500 charge and discharge cycles.

2. How to choose the appropriate battery capacity?
The capacity of the battery directly determines the cruising range of the electric vehicle. When choosing a battery, you should consider your actual travel needs. At present, the commonly used lithium batteries for electric tricycles have a capacity of 30Ah~80Ah, and the commonly used lead-acid batteries have a capacity of 20Ah~50Ah. Under normal circumstances, a 60V35Ah lithium battery can travel about 120km, and a 60V80Ah lithium battery can travel about 250km.

If your daily driving mileage is long, or you often need to use your electric vehicle when it cannot be charged, you should choose a battery with a larger capacity. The larger the capacity, the stronger the endurance of your electric vehicle.

3. How long does it take to charge these batteries?

Lithium batteries support higher charging rates, generally reaching 1C or even higher. This means that a lithium battery with a capacity of 50Ah can be charged at a current of 50A, and can theoretically go from fully discharged to fully charged within 1 hour.

Lead-acid batteries typically have a slower charging process and the charge rate is limited by their chemistry. In order to protect the battery and extend its service life, the generally recommended charging rate should not exceed 0.3C of the battery capacity,

which means that for a lead-acid battery with a capacity of 50Ah, the recommended maximum charging current is 15A. Fully charging a lead-acid battery usually takes 6-8 hours, or even longer.
4. Is battery cycle life a potential cost?
Yes, when choosing an electric tricycle battery, you should not only consider the initial purchase cost, but also the service life and long-term maintenance costs.

The biggest advantage of lead-acid batteries is their lower cost, but their service life is usually shorter, about 300-500 charge and discharge cycles, which means that if they are charged and discharged once a day, a lead-acid battery can be used for about 1 to 1.5 years. However, in actual use, due to the influence of different users' charging and discharging habits, usage environment and other factors, some lead-acid batteries may have a shorter service life.

Although the initial investment of lithium batteries is relatively high, they can usually achieve more than 2,000 charge and discharge cycles. Under the same daily charge and discharge frequency, the service life of lithium batteries can reach more than 5 years. The high number of charge and discharge cycles means that users do not need to replace batteries frequently during long-term use, thus saving maintenance costs.

In terms of service life and maintenance costs, lithium batteries may be the most economical choice in the long run.
